For more than a century, St Virgil’s College has nurtured young men who have gone on to achieve excellence in sport at the highest level. Among the College’s many proud traditions is a distinguished record of representation at the Olympic and Commonwealth Games, where Old Virgilians have carried the green and gold with honour and distinction.

Scott Brennan
Scott Brennan is an Olympic gold-medallist rower from Hobart.
He began rowing at St Virgil’s College in 1995, eventually becoming College captain in 1998.
He went on to represent Australia at three consecutive Olympic Games.

Scott Bowden rode for Australia at the 2016 Olympic Games (mountain bike cross-country & road race).
He first started cycling while a student at St Virgil’s College.

Max Giuliani
Max Giuliani is listed among the Old Virgilians as a “Professional Swimmer” and one of the school’s Olympic-level talents.
According to school-community sources, he returned to the College in 2024 to speak with younger students after becoming an Olympic swimmer.

Tristan Thomas
Tristan Thomas attended St Virgil’s College for high school.
He represented Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the 400 m hurdles.
Over his career he also earned a bronze medal in the 4×400m relay at the World Championships.
